Students from the Pinnacle Peak Academy fifth grade classes celebrate Arbor Day last week. The fifth graders produced a play about the founder of Arbor Day, J. Sterling Morton. They also conducted a flag ceremony and presented a poetry reading, concluding the activities by planting a tree in front of the school. Lyle Bauer from Price city taught the students about trees and how to plant them. Price was recently recognized as a Tree City, USA. Teacher Kelly Martinez and student teacher Del Funk helped the fifth graders plan the event, but the students did almost all the work. Price city’s shade tree commission was instrumental in assisting with the program. The commission was set up to educate local citizens in tree planting and care, including presenting programs for schools in the area. The commission also assists residents in resolving problems associated with trees.
