Eagles finish season on winning note

The College of Eastern Utah men’s basketball team finished the regular season Friday in Colorado. The team wrapped up the season with a victory, 105-67 and with an overall record of 19-11.
The Eagles traveled to Rangely, Colo. to take on the Colorado Northwestern Spartans. Although the Spartans finished the season with a 1-17 record, the Eagles did not take the game lightly. In fact, the Eagles played as solid as possible.
Mindaugas Katelynas, Valentino Richardson, and Nick Whiting lead the Eagles in scoring with 14 points a piece. Richardson completed 2-2 three point field goals, while Katelynas pulled down five rebounds and blocked one shot.
Skyler Wilson completed the game with 13 points. Wilson, who is currently ranked fourth in the Scenic West Athletic Conference in three point field goals made, also completed 2-2 long distance shots against the Spartans. Wilson also posted three steals and three rebounds in the Eagles rally.
Terrence Wiggins, and Josh Hatch each scored 12 points Friday night. Hatch also completed one blocked shot and pulled down three rebounds against the struggling Spartan team.
Matt Thomas, who has been a constant key player for the Eagles scored seven points, while completing 3-4 three point shots. Thomas also pulled down five rebounds, dished out three assists, and completed one steal against Colorado Northwestern.
Although the Eagles have completed the regular season, the team will now move on to the region tournament which will be held in St. George March 6-9. The Eagles will begin the tournament as the fifth ranked SWAC team and will face the fourth ranked team, UVSC. The first game for the men will be played at noon on Thursday.
The Eagles have played the UVSC Wolverines twice this season, both times, the Eagles finished on the lower end of the score board. Although both games were decided based upon field goal percentage, the Eagles have played quite well against UVSC.
The tournament is single elimination, therefore, it is do-or-die time for the Eagles. The team is talented and if the Eagles play hard and smart, the team will go far in the region tournament.
