A one car rollover near the Emma Park turnoff junction with U.S. Highway 6 claimed the life of an Elmo man on Friday night at about 11:30 p.m.
Orin Varden Willson, 69 was killed when the vehicle he was riding in rolled over a guard rail, landed on it’s wheels and traveled down a hillside on the side of the road.
Apparently, the car, driven by 69-year-old Lucille Wilson, also of Elmo and the wife of the victim, drifted across the center line while traveling eastbound on the highway.
The driver purportedly overcorrected the car twice and the vehicle collided into the guard rail, which started the rollover sequence.
According to Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Jeff Horrocks, Willson died at the accident scene.
Rescue crews from Helper were dispatched at 11:39 p.m. and arrived at the scene at 11:57 p.m.
Rescue 3 personnel found Mr. Willson laying outside the car, while Mrs. Willson was still inside the vehicle.
At the time, emergency responders to the accident were not sure whether Willson had been ejected or had gotten out of the car.
Sgt. Horrocks indicated that it appeared the couple were both wearing seatbelts at the time of the mishap, but the accident is still under investigation.
