Jillian Fincher, Lacey Pugliese, Julie Hart, Patricia Smith and third grade teacher Vickie Tamllos proudly display the result of many students and staff members work from the Carbon School District that will be sent to New York School P.S 234 or otherwise known as the Independence School. The Independence School was located only three blocks from ground zero in New York on Sept.11 and the students there have still not been able to return to their building. Tamllos came up with the idea that the district should sponsor a school in the area and help them and when she approached Superintendent David Armstrong he was all for the idea. Over the past three months Castle Heights, Creekview, the Castle Valley Center, Sally Mauro, Helper Junior High, Westridge Middle School, Mont Harmon Junior High, Wellington, and Carbon High School students and staff have given of their time and money by doing such things as making donation cans and selling red, white and blue star suckers to raise the $1837.50 check that is shown in the photo. The large card in the middle names the schools and is represented on the outside by an American flag. When the school in New York was contacted by Tamllos they were very touched by the coming donation and said that almost everything they had in the building was destroyed.
