Eagles soar high in Phoenix

The College of Eastern Utah men’s basketball team traveled to Phoenix, Ariz. for a two day tournament Dec. 28-29. The team traveled to the warm weather city where they heated up the basketball court.
The Eagles began competition against Glendale Community College. CEU played strong and outscored Glendale 85-76 to finish the game victorious.
Nick Whiting lead the Eagles in scoring with 19 points. Whiting completed 6-7 free throws and scored one three point shot against Glendale.
Matt Thomas followed in scoring with 16 points, while Antoine Reynolds scored 13, and Terrence Wiggins also scored 13 and posted 12 rebounds.
The following night, CEU squared off against the South Mountain Community College Cougars. In this game, the Eagles played strong defensively. The team defeated the Cougars 80-58.
CEU is currently ranked first in the Scenic West Athletic Conference in scoring defense with an average of 49 points per game.
Wiggins contributed to this figure with 25 points while also posting 15 rebounds. This was Wiggins second double-double in two days. This figure lead the coaches to vote Wiggins player of the week in the SWAC.
This is the first Eagles player to be voted player of the week thus far this season. Wiggins is however deserving of the honor.
Wiggins currently is ranked first in the SWAC in three point field goals completed averaging 100 percent in conference games from the long distance line. Wiggins is also ranked 12 in scoring in all games played with an average of 15.9 points per game.
Wiggins, along with the rest of the Eagles are also ranked first in the SWAC in scoring margin, averaging plus 36 points per game, while ranking second in rebounds, averaging 45 per game.
The highly ranked SWAC team is currently 11-2 for the season and intend to build on not only records, but victories as the season progresses.
The Eagles will hit the court again Jan. 3 and 5 in Idaho where they will take on Ricks College and North Idaho College.
The team will then return home Jan. 11 to take on Salt Lake Community College in front of Eagles fans at the BDAC.
