The story of the week seems to be the drubbing that the Jazz gave the Miami Heat in Florida on Tuesday evening when the Pat Riley coached team scored the fourth lowest point total in NBA history. Low score of the past week right?

The low score of the last week, maybe of the whole season in these parts was the dump-them-on-their-heads and mop-the-floor-with-them beating that the Lady Vikings of East Carbon administered to the Wendover Wildcats last Friday night. The girls from the western desert town almost didn’t manage double figures; for the game that is, not for a single player as they lost 56-10 to the girls from ECH.
In all fairness, they were missing three of their starters, but just the same East Carbon coach Ryan Hepworth didn’t try to lay it on too thick either as he played everyone on the team trying to keep the score down.
Then on Tuesday night the team ventured into the west desert themselves to take on Tintic and they caved in the tunnel on the Lady Miners to the tune of 59-43.
Friday’s game was one of those they should have cancelled after the first quarter, but who could have known that Wendover had left their shooting touch on the salt flats instead of bringing it with them. At the end of the first period the score was 17-0.
In the second quarter the Lady Wildcats were lucky enough to put five through so at least it wasn’t a zip game in the whole first half. ECH went into the locker room with a commanding 35-5 lead.
In the second half the Lady Vikes tried to lay a little low and not embarrass their adversaries too bad, but players hungry for playing time are not prone to not scoring when they can.
In the end, 12 players on the ECH team scored, no one with really high numbers because they shared so much time, but each enough to bury the Wendover team way below the ground. Alaena Preston was the leading scorer for East Carbon with 12 points.
On Tuesday night the team played at Tintic and got off to a great start by taking the first quarter 15-11.
In the second quarter the Lady Vikes extended the lead even more behind the shooting of Preston and ended up with a 33-24 lead.
In the third quarter, East Carbon didn’t score as much as they did in either of the first two periods of the game, but then they also held the Lady Miners to a game low eight points for the period.
By the fourth quarter it was apparent that the girls from Carbon County had established their presence and the game just slid on into the record books as they barely won the quarter 15-13, but took the game by a 16 point margin.
Once again Preston was the leading scorer with 22 points. Chelsey Timothy had 17.
The girls will now face Meridian School in Provo tonight (Thursday) and then will take some time off for the holidays. They will not play again until January 8 when they face Green River in an away non-league contest.
