A trip to southern Utah this time of year is usually a nice pleasant warm weather experience.
But for the Carbon High boys basketball team, it was a chilly reception as they played two Cedar City teams last weekend.
On Friday they played the Cedar City Redmen and lost in a close one 48-45.
On Saturday they went to the North end of town and played Canyon View losing to the Falcons 44-40.
The first quarter of Fridays game was good for the Dinos as they led the Redmen 13-9 at the end of the period. Then in the second period the Cedar City players out scored the Carbon kids 10-7.
At that point Carbon clung to a 20-19 lead going into the locker room.
The third period was low scoring as both teams put on defense. Carbon won the quarter 10-9, but the fourth period was not quite so good for the Dinos.
The Redman came out shooting hot and hit for 20 in the period, while holding the Dinos to 15.
The leading scorer for the Dinos was Jake Wood with 17 points.
On Saturday night the teams came out each winning a half. Unfortunately Canyon View went first and with bigger numbers.
In the first quarter the Falconsheld the Dinos to only seven points while scoring 13 points themselves.
In the second period neither team did very well as the Falcons only scored 11 points and the Dinos improved from the first period to nine points.
Carbon was the champion of the second half, but just didn’t come up with enough to overtake the home team.
In the third period they scored only 12 points, but held the Falcons to 11. In the fourth they again put 12 through the basket. They also played good defense holding the Falcons to only 9.
The leading scorer in the game for Carbon was Wood once again with eight. No Carbon player came in with double figures in the contest.
The Dinos now play Granite High from Region 10 on Wednesday night at the Dino gymnasium at 7 p.m. This will be the boys last home game until January 10.
