Carbon High’s football season begins on Friday.
The first Carbon High football game of the season will be Friday at 5 p.m. at the CEU football field. Because of construction on Carbon’s field, all the home games this year will be at the college field and they will be afternoon contests. The team will face Payson High School from Utah County.
East Carbon begins fall baseball season.
While baseball most other places is winding down, in the 1A ranks it is just getting started. East Carbon’s team will face their first opponent on Tuesday night in Loa as they face Wayne High School at 4 p.m.
Most 1A schools play fall baseball instead of a football schedule.
Pool league to have first meeting.
The Castle Valley Pool League will be having their first meeting of the season on August 21 at 7 p.m. The meeting is set at the Regis Club in Helper to discuss this years league set up and to take ideas from individuals who want to participate. All team captains and bar owners should come to this meeting, but all players are also welcome.
Womens golf tournament slated at country club.
The Carbon two womens best ball golf tournament will take place on August 22. There will be a breakfast held at the country club before the 9 a.m. shotgun start. The tournament is being run by the Carbon Ladies Golf Association. Entrants must have a handicap established to participate.
Registration for the tournament began August 1 and will continue until the field is full. For more information contact Tom King at 637-2388.
Region Wildlife meeting slated.
The next Regional Wildlife Advisory Council (RAC) meeting will convene on August 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the John Wesley Powell Museum in Green River.
Center stage will be the 2002 Fishing Proclamation. The DWR is proposing a reduction in the general bag and possession limit for trout from 8 fish to 4 fish.
Rotenone treatments and introductions of Colorado River Cutthroat Trout at waters in the southeastern region will also be on the agenda.
Helper Art Festival 5K run takes place on Saturday.
Carbon County Recreation is operating a 5K run in conjunction with the Helper Arts Festival on Saturday. Entrants are encouraged to pre-register for this race by Thursday by calling recreation at 637-5092. Participants who register after that day will not be guaranteed a T-shirt.
The race will begin in Spring Canyon, travel up Main Street and end up on the parkway. Runners will meet at 8a.m. at the pavilion in downtown Helper and recreation will bus them to the starting point in the canyon.
