The Carbon High School girls’ basketball team won both of its first two Region 12 games of the season, defeating the Hawks of North Sanpete High School 60-21 on Tuesday, and then defeating the Falcons of Canyon View High School 54-37 on Thursday.
The Dinos started Region 12 play last Tuesday by steamrolling North Sanpete. The Hawks managed just one single point in the first quarter, while the Dinos scored 11. Carbon did not slow down from there, scoring 17 points in the second quarter, and the Dinos went into halftime leading 28-5. The Dinos kept the ball moving the second half, scoring 15 points in the third quarter and 17 in the fourth, while the Hawks managed just eight in each quarter.
For the Dinos, Cyene Bigelow, Chandelle Nichols and Lindsey Blanc each scored 11 points. Kelsey Sorenson and McKenna Sorenson tallied 10 points each. The Dinos totaled 30 rebounds in the game, with K. Sorenson tallying nine, seven defensive, and M. Sorenson tallying six, four defensive.
The Dinos took to the road on Thursday to play Canyon View and returned home with the win. The Dinos got out to an early lead in the game, tallying 18 points in the first quarter, compared to the Falcons’ six. The Dinos were outscored by three points in the second quarter, but still went into halftime leading 28-19.
With 17 points in the third quarter and nine in the fourth, compared to Canyon View’s seven and 11, the Dinos brought home a victory. Blanc led the Dinos with 17 points, including two three-pointers. Jordan Bianco tallied 11 points in the game, including three three-pointers.
The Dinos improved their record to 12-2 overall and 2-0 in Region 12 play with the victories. Carbon will travel to play Richfield High School on Tuesday, then play host to Juab High School on Thursday with tip-off set for 7 p.m.
