The Carbon High marching band just concluded their season with a competition in St. George last weekend. Even though they didn’t place in the event, they improved their score from last year. This is the third year for the marching band under Mr. Cunningham.
Carbon High’s marching band has been working hard since the middle of the summer. Some of the band members even take extra days to perfect everything. This summer, Carbon High has formed its first marching band in more than twenty years.
The marching band has been practicing their show and performing songs from the Broadway hit, “Jersey Boys.” Their first competition was Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the Nebo Tournament of Bands; unfortunately, the band did not place.
They competed against other 2A bands. They continue working hard and improving for their state competition in St. George, Utah, November 3-4. The CHS marching band and the directors have all been working very hard to make this year a springboard for a successful marching program in years to come.
Mr. Cunningham’s hopes for the next competitions are for the kids to keep having fun, working hard, and to put on a show that all of us can be proud of. He adds, “if we do these things we will continue to rise in the rankings.” He commented on the two competitions they have participated in to date, “The competitions went as expected,” he says, “These competitions allow us to be judged and to see what we are doing well.”
He explained that nothing could have been done better. “We constantly add things and improve our show every practice… We will work over the next two weeks two weeks to build on to our show and do our very best at the Wasatch Invitational in Salt Lake. ”
He thinks the band is doing exceptionally well so far this year. There are more difficult marching drills, the music has more challenge to it and they have added a color guard this year, “I am excited to watch the band members continue to become better marchers and amazing musicians. They work so hard. I want to see their hard work pay off,” he said.
A band member added, “I think this year is going to be a really amazing, I am really excited to be a part of it.”
Another said, “ It’s been a really great year and I think the music and the marching is coming along good.”
We are excited to see all that the Carbon Dino Stampede can accomplish in the seasons to come.
