PRICE – Carbon Girls Basketball is off to an impressive start after going 3-1 in the Shannon Johnson Classic in Mountain Pleasant.
“We were very pleased and proud of our girls for coming out and playing well in all of our games. They competed well all weekend long and showed improvement in every game,” said Carbon Head Coach Ted Bianco.
The Lady Dinos fell in the first game to Wasatch Academy 57-53 in their first game of the season.
They would go on to finish the tournament with three straight wins where they at least scored 50 points. Carbon picked up those wins against South Summit, Mountain Crest and Uintah.
Defensively in the three wins, Carbon held their opponents on average to only 33 points per game.
Junior forward Jodi Noyes led the Dinos with 14.5 points and 11.3 rebounds per game during the tournament.
Against Mountain Crest, Noyes had a big game down low for the Lady Dinos scoring 22 points and grabbing 17 rebounds.
Sophomore Jordan Bianco and senior Kelcey Sorenson each averaged 11 points in the four games.
As a team the Lady Dinos averaged 34.8 rebounds per game, something that made the Carbon coaching staff very happy.
“We did an exceptional job on the boards and as coaches we were very pleased with how well our team played together,” said Bianco.
Up next for Carbon is the Major Mortgage Wildcat Classic in Fruita, Colorado. They will play three games this weekend starting with Grand Junction on Thursday at 3 p.m.
“We are looking forward to the tournament in Fruita this weekend and would like to really work on limiting some of the turnovers and improve our free throw shooting,” said Bianco.
Overall the Lady Dinos return one senior from last year’s team which made it to the 3A State semifinals.
They will host their first home game against Region foe Delta on December 19 at 7 p.m.
A full team preview of the 2017-2018 Lady Dinos basketball team will be published later this month in the Sun Advocate
