The Carbon High School varsity softball team lost its game against Juab High School on Friday, falling 10-0.
The Dinos mustered just one hit in the loss to Juab, a single by Kinley Nelson in the second inning. McKenna Sorenson started the game pitching for the Dinos and threw 4.1 innings, allowing all 10 runs to cross the plate, eight earned.
The Dinos’ JV squad played against Juab as well, winning 8-5. After falling behind 2-0 after the first inning, Makayla Lupo put the Dinos in the lead in the second inning with a three-run home run.
The Dinos extended this lead to three runs in the third inning on an RBI single by Taylor Passarella, who later scored on a single by Nelson. Juab came within one run of tying the game again in the fourth inning, but the Dinos scored two more in the fifth. Juab got one of these runs back in the bottom of the fifth, but Carbon sealed the deal with a run in the seventh inning and held Juab in the bottom of the inning.
Nelson pitched the complete JV game for the Dinos, tallying 11 strikeouts with two earned runs and no walks.
Carbon will play against Juab again on Tuesday. Final standings for Region 12 will be determined by the end of the week and the first State playoff game is Saturday.
