DELTA, Colo. – Longtime Delta area resident, Joyce M. Otto, died Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at the Delta County Memorial Hospital. She was 80 years of age.
Joyce was born Aug. 12, 1927 to Robert J. and Vera Henderson in Carbon County. On April 21, 1946, she married George Henrie in Las Vegas, Nev.. Together, they shared over 32 years of love and marriage before George’s passing on July 28, 1978. On Dec. 11, 1987, she married Bill Otto in Las Vegas, Nev. He preceded her in death.
Joyce spent her childhood and attended school in Utah. She moved to Delta, Colo., over 56 years ago.
Joyce had a long career as a nurse in Delta starting at the Delta Hospital. She became Dr. Warner’s nurse, where she worked for 25 years. She knew everyone in town and couldn’t walk down the street without someone saying she was their favorite nurse. She retired from nursing at 65.
After retiring, Joyce and Bill spent six months in the winter in Arizona, where they enjoyed horseback riding (at age 60), crafts, crocheting and visiting many friends from other states.
Joyce was a loving mother and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and her twin sister, Joy Marasco.
Joyce is survived by two sons, Vern Henrie and his wife, Pat; and Scott Henrie all of Delta, Colo.; two daughters, Randi Dixon of Denver, Colo.; and Karen Pilgrim of Delta, Colo.; and one twin sister, Joy Marasco of Price. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, George Henrie; second husband, Bill Otto; infant son; three sisters; three brothers; and her parents.
Graveside service will be Saturday, July 26, 10 a.m., at the Delta City Cemetery with James Gall presiding. All who loved Joyce and wish to share memories are welcome to attend an open house following the service at the home of Vern and Pat Henrie, 992 E. 11th Street, Delta, Colo. Arrangements in care of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
