Music professor Russell Wilson is looking for musicians and singers for a number of projects including people who want to play the recorder, which he is holding in this photo.

Singers, violinists and recorder players are being invited to participate in performing groups this spring at the College of Eastern Utah music department. Director Russell Wilson announced last week.
The May performance of the Faure “Requiem” is coming up and the college is seeking singers from the community. Those who have sung in the annual performance of “Messiah” at Christmas time are especially encouraged to return, but new singers are also welcome.
Rehearsals will be for only seven weeks, on Sunday evenings at 7 p.m.
The requiem by Gabriel Faure, a French composer, is moving and popular choral work, frequently performed by community and professional choirs.
The community string orchestra has recently begun rehearsals. All local string players are invited to participate. Rehearsals are Sunday evenings at 6 p.m. at the CEU music building. The ensemble is preparing such works as “Ave Verum” by Mozart, and the popular “Hoe-Down” by Aaron Copland
In addition, a new recorder group is also being formed at the CEU Music Department.
“This is the same instrument people played in sixth grade,” noted Wilson. “Some may not realize that it can be a serious musical instrument that is very fun to play. There is a lot of great music for a quartet of recorders, called a consort. Recorders come in four sizes, from soprano to bass, and we already have players for each of those. We have instruments available for people with musical experience.”
The group is looking for musicians who have perhaps played woodwind instruments previously. With a dozen people already signed up the ensemble is hoping to double that number for a concert later in the spring.
Rehearsals for the recorder group will begin on Wednesday at 5 p.m. for the next few weeks, until a permanent time can be established.
Those who are interested may contact Wilson at 630-1060 or at russell.wilson@ceu.edu.
