Brent Hobi
PRICE – Brent Nikas Hobi, age 60, passed away April 6, 2008 in Provo at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 21, 1948 in Columbus, Ohio, to Nikki Nikas and Joe Hobi.
Brent grew up in Orange County, Calif. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1968 while stationed in Korea.
Not long after returning from the service, Brent joined his family in Price in 1972. Soon after arriving, he began working in the local trade of coal mining and fell in love with it. He started with Energy West Mining in the Desby Dove Coal Mine, later went to Deer Creek and finally to Trail Mountain. He retired from the mining industry in 2001 after 29 years with the same company.
He married Marie Colledge on Dec. 17, 1989 in Price. They spent most of their time on the golf course. Brent loved to golf and watch golf and talk about golf. If anyone could make golf interesting, it was Brent, as he was giving the play-by-play of each and every shot he had ever made.
He loved all sports, especially baseball. He and Marie traveled many times to Mesa, Ariz., to watch his favorite team, the Chicago Cubs, in spring training. Golf in the morning and baseball in the afternoon – the perfect world.
He also loved entertaining family and friends with Melissa, his guitar, and his incredible singing. One of his favorite songs to play was “Rockin’ Robin.”
His mom tells stories about Brent growing up. He was always quite the story teller. They would sit down to eat dinner and each would take a turn telling the events of the day. Nikki always had to have Brent go last because she knew that, once he started, he wouldn’t shut up.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Survived by his wife, Marie Hobi, Price; mother, Nikki Senor, Price; two daughters and one son, Brandie (Eric) Llewelyn, Michelle Rasmussen, both Salt Lake; Dustin (Misty) Shiner, Green River, Wyo.; nine grandchildren; sisters and brother, Toni (Bob) Mermer, Fresno, Calif.; Craig (Peggy) Hobi, Long Island, N.Y.; Renee Hobi, San Diego, Calif.; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, LuDean (Billy) Bishop, Lehi; Cindy (Antone) Holmes, Indianola; Robert Colledge, Cedar Fort; and Kris Colledge, Lehi. Preceded in death by stepfather Sandy Senor; brothers-in-law, Kevin and Victor Colledge.
Memorial service Wednesday, April 9, 2 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home.

Rick Velasquez
PRICE – Arsenio “Rick” Velasquez, age 52, passed away while surrounded by family on Tuesday, April 2, 2008 at the University of Utah Hospital from injuries sustained in a work-related accident.
He was born June 16, 1955 in Price to Arsenio “Walter” and Sarah Talamante Velasquez.
Rick graduated from Carbon High School in 1973. After graduation, he moved to Grand Junction, Colo., for a brief period, but spent most of his adult life in Price.
He was a loving, giving, brother, son and friend who adored his family. He had a loud booming voice and a big heart.
Rick was very close to his parents and he would call them as often as four times a day. He loved spending time with his nephews and nieces and he enjoyed hunting, camping and fishing.
Rick was a professional truck driver employed by Savage Services in Price at the Carbon transport operation. He loved his job and often said it was the best job he ever had. Rick enjoyed his work so much that he recommended truck driving to everyone.
He was passionate about music. He loved all types of music, especially Christian, country and rock music. He loved to sing along with his favorite artists and his favorite bands included Third Day and Lynyrd Skynard.
Rick enjoyed gardening and he loved planting and harvesting a variety of chilies, peppers and other garden vegetables.
Rick was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all.
Survived by his parents, Arsenio and Sarah Velasquez, Price; brothers and sisters, Mark (Kim) Velasquez, Lehi; Darlene (Gary) Jerant, West Valley; Jolene (Roger) McKinnon, Price; Julie (Duane) Adderley, Price; nieces and nephews, Tanica, Thomas and Taylor Jerant; Rebecca McKinnon; Markee, Nikolas and Shaydee Velasquez; Austin, Andrew and Jaylee Adderley; and a special friend, Tracie Perkins.
Rick has gone to “The Rock” that is higher than us all. When this time of heartache, pain and tears come to an end, we will always keep Rick in our hearts and celebrate the joy he brought to all of us.

Sharon Hreinson
HELPER- Our loving wife, sister, aunt and dear friend, Sharon Jane Kirkwood Hreinson, age 61, passed away April 5, 2008 in Orangeville while surrounded by her loving family and caregivers.
She was born Oct. 1, 1946 in Provo to Earl Pete and Marjorie Jane Nelson Kirkwood.
Sharon lived in Thistle for many years and, in 1964, the family moved to Helper. On March 3, 1973, she married the love of her life, Carl “Deke” Hreinson, in Price and, on their 35th anniversary this year, they renewed their vows and Sharon was baptized Catholic.
She was a longtime resident of Helper and a dedicated employee of Helper city for over 20 years. She took great pride in her work, family, friends, and she especially enjoyed those she was acquainted with through her work.
She loved to travel, visit, and, no matter where you went, Sharon and Deke were always together. They were a truly remarkable couple who were inseparable, whether at work or play.
Sharon always had a warm embrace for everyone and her smile could brighten anyone’s day.
She was blessed with many dear friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Survived by her loving husband and constant companion of 35 years, Deke Hreinson of Helper; brother, Earl (Debbie) Kirkwood, Hotchkiss, Colo.; sister, Earlene Warren, Helper; loving niece and caregiver, Desery (Larry) Martinez, Orangeville; niece, Samantha (Mark) Ivie, Riverton; nephews, Mike (Louann) Hreinson, Helper; Dave (Katie) Hreinson, Huntington; Pete Kirkwood, Helper; Kent (Rachelle) Kirkwood, Wellington; great- nieces and nephews, Aubrey, Hunter, Kelsy, Mark, Dan LeRoy; many cousins and a community of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Guy LeRoy and Charles Nelson Kirkwood.

Yolanda Farlaino
SUNNYSIDE/PRICE – Yolanda Dallacorte Farlaino, age 90, passed away peacefully April 6, 2008 at Castle Country Care Center in Price.
She was born Dec. 11, 1917 in Sunnyside to Amerigo and Carmela Pederiva Dallacorte. Married her sweetheart, Frank George Farlaino, March 26, 1938 in Price. Frank passed Oct. 20, 1995.
Yolanda was a devout member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in East Carbon. She was a longtime resident of Sunnyside prior to moving to Price in 2002.
Her greatest love was caring for her family and friends and, over the years, her gentle touch comforted many.
She enjoyed sports and, during her high school years, she excelled in running.
Yolanda will be dearly missed by all.
Survived by her loving and dedicated son, Larry Farlaino, Price; sister, Yvonne Dallacorte, Sunnyside and many loving nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents; son, Eugene; sister, Gena Gourdin; brothers, Ray and Bruno Dallacorte.
Funeral Mass Wednesday, April 9, 10 a.m., Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church. Vigil service Tuesday evening, 7 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Tuesday and Wednesday one hour prior to service. Committal service, Price City Cemetery.

Rev. Thomas Kaiser
SALT LAKE CITY – Reverend Thomas Joseph Kaiser died at Christus St. Joseph Villa on Saturday, April 5, 2008, of age related causes. He was 84 years of age.
Thomas Kaiser was born July 4, 1923, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Walter and Erma Maas Kaiser, both deceased. He attended Saint Paul Seminary in Saint Paul, Minn., and was ordained a priest June 4, 1949 for the Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City.
Father Kaiser was a parish priest who cared in a special way for the poor and those whose lives were on the fringes of society.
He lived simply, with few material possessions. He had a profound faith that reflected his devotion to the divine mercy of Jesus and to the Blessed Virgin Mary. He was much admired by his many faithful friends.
During his early years of priestly ministry, he served at Our Lady of Lourdes and Saint Ann Parishes in Salt Lake City. In 1955, he established Saint Pius X Parish in Moab and was its first pastor. Subsequently, he was pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Salt Lake City; Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Magna, Saint Joseph Parish in Ogden and Good Shepherd Parish in East Carbon City.
During retirement, he assisted at Saint Vincent de Paul Parish in Salt Lake and frequently ministered to young people at the youth detention center.
He is survived by his siblings, Lloyd Kaiser, Bernard (Pat) Kaiser, Cary Fardette, Magdeline Peck, Hazel Brimi, Jody (Don) Miller and Ilene (Glenn) Marron. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, who were very fond of Father Tom.
Reception of the body will be Tuesday, April 8, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Madeleine, 331 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City, followed by the funeral Vigil. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, also at the cathedral. Committal will be at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 4th Avenue and T Street, Salt Lake City. Arrangements handled through Neil O’Donnell & Sons Mortuary.
