A Carbon high jumper clears the bar during an earlier tournament held here at Carbon High last month. |
On April 1, the Carbon track team competed at Delta. This was not a qualifying meet so no team scores were kept. The teams involved were Carbon, Delta, Emery, North Sanpete, and Richfield.
Kent Olsen had a super meet as he finished third in the mile and second in the 800 meter run. He also had personal best times that qualified him for the B.Y.U. invitational meet later this month. Other boys that ran well in the mile and 800 were Jared Richens, Kaleb Kulow, Robert Lowe, and Andrew Bates. All the middle distance boys that ran had personal best times.
In the sprints and jumping events, Coach Telisse Allen thought Jordan Tatton, Carson Tatton, Zac Barnett, Ryan Rasmussen, Andrew Rasmussen, and Shane Dolinski ran well.
In the boys high jump Ryan Rasmussen placed third followed by Jordan Tatton in fourth place.
Chris Rummel placed well in the boys 400 meter sprint, while Brock Morley placed second in the 300 meter hurdles. Brett Wells ran a strong race to place third in the 110 meter high hurdles followed closely by Brock Morley.
The boys 4×400 relay placed third, and was ran by Robert Lowe, Brett Wells, Brock Morley, and Braden Watkins.
The girls team was led by Megan Garvin. Megan placed third in the high jump and helped the girls to a third place finish on the 4×400 relay. The other girls on the relay team were Karissa Nelson, Lydia Jeppson, and Felicia Olmos. Felicia also ran a strong 200 meter run during the competition.
Chantel Jensen placed fourth in the girls high jump on this cool evening of competition.
Our next meet was at Union High School in Roosevelt on Friday, April 4.
The team will also be putting on a 12 hour run as a fundraiser on April 18 and 19 starting at 6 p.m. The team will be obtaining pleges over the few weeks for those wishing to contribute to the team. For further information contact head coach Jimmy Jewkes.
