Letter to the Editor: Fairness in players

By Sun Advocate

Editor:
In response to Alan Peterson’s letter (Sun Advocate, Feb. 27), I agree that Carbon Recreation is the greatest.
However, not all youth and parents do not care or do not want to sit in front of the television, computer, video games, etc. There are dedicated youth and parents that attend every practice and never miss a game. And there are those who hardly, if ever, go to practice and only go to the game they feel like playing in. Yet, guess who plays every inning of every game they decide on showing up at? It’s the ones who don’t even have the heart for the game, while dedicated ones sit on the bench so these others can play.
Nine times out of 10 these players who play without dedication are the coache’s son, grandson, friends of the son or the grandson or even the ones who play for the schools and come after the season is over. They then take the regulars spots and the displaced ones sit on the bench.
The question is, would you want to come back year after year and face the same scenario?
These youth have feelings and they are always being stomped on so we shouldn’t blame the youth or their parents. We need to just look at the fairness or unfairness of the coaches.
Now before you look further at my letter and say “If you don’t like it get out there and coach yourself,” I want to say I don’t know anything about baseball, but I do know what is fair and what isn’t. And some of what I have seen isn’t fair.
