The CEU Eagles split a pair in Salt Lake as they move into the heart of conference play. Friday night they lost 83-87 in overtime. On Saturday they would not be denied and took the game 82-72 from SLCC.
Getting themselves in a seven point hole on Friday night, the Eagles needed to get their offense rolling. They were up to the task and out scored SLCC by seven in the second period of play to tie it up at the end of regulation. In OT, SLCC edged out the Eagles to take the win.
Point guard Tyler Kepkay torched the boards with 36 points to lead all scorers. He dished out five assists as well. Steve Hassel with 17 and Anthony Oliver with 13 were the other Eagles in double figures on the night. Hassel and Felix Casperi pulled in eight rebounds.
After a disappointing loss, the Eagles were able to regroup and came back ready to play. CEU took a six point lead into the break and never looked back. In the second they pushed their lead to 10 for a decisive win over SLCC. At 3-1 in SWAC play they are currently tied with SLCC and Southern Idaho for the conference standings.
Kepkay hit another 32 points going 4-5 from the three point line. He was also 10-10 at the line. Jeremy Latham and Hassel added 10 ppints for the only other Eagles in double figures.
The team travels down to Ephraim to take on the 2-2 Snow College Friday and Saturday. They will be back home on January 26 and 27.
