Of the 27 schools that participate in 3A swimming, Carbon’s five men placed 15th overall. There were 212 men swimming at state out of 405 total men swimmers and out of 412 total women 204 swam at state. Each time a Carbon swimmer took to the water, they posted a personal best time! Coach Phyllis Cox summed it up succinctly, “Great job!”
In the 100 yard Butterfly, Thomas Peterson a junior this year, achieved his year long goal of breaking the Carbon High record. The previous record was 1:00.54 and Peterson’s previous time was 1:00.69, just fifteen hundredths away from the record. He placed 15th with a new Carbon High record of 59.65.
In the 100 yard Backstroke, senior Leo Yu swam a 1:03.43. The Carbon High record is a 1:01.31. Yu placed 17th in the backstroke.

Peterson and Yu both swam the 50 Free, both earning personal best times. Thomas just beat out Yu with a 23.64 placing 11th while Yu placed 12th with a 23.81. The Carbon High record is a 22.97.
Carbon’s 400 yard Freestyle Relay of Yu, Brody Jackman, freshman; Michael Rigby, Junior; and Peterson, moved from 15th place to 12th in the final standings.
Carbon’s 200 yard Medley Relay of Tim Neilson, freshman; Yu, Peterson, and Rigby moved up one place from where they were seeded as well as posting their best time yet this season. They swam a 1:59.04 and the Carbon High Record is a 1:56.93.
