Mining ladder is a window to Castle Country’s past

A weathered step ladder leads down a groove in the rock from the top of a rocky mesa, allowing miners above access to the mine portals located along the bench below. The San Rafael Swell has a rich history of mining activity. Most mining claims were for uranium, although some were for coal, gold and even silver.
