Paul Goodrich (15) catches a Morgan runner after passing a Cedar City competitor during the state track meet in Provo last week.

The state track and field championships were held last Thursday and Friday in Provo and Carbon High sent a number of competitors to the event.
Paul Goodrich led the Dinos by placing seventh in the 1600 meter run, and third in the 3200 meter run.
In both races Goodrich came from the middle of the pack to excite the crowd and his fellow teammates. In the 3200 meters he made his move with 800 meters left. He caught the runner from Park City and lost out by hundreds of a second at the finish line. His final time was 9:51:51.
Travis Hepworth competed in the 110 meter hurdles but did not qualify for the finals.
In the girls events, Mont Harmon was well represented by Samantha and Patricia Smith.
On Friday both girls ran in the 1600 meter race. Both girls improved their rankings and had personal best times. Samantha finished in 13th place with a time of 5:32 and Patricia finished 15th with a time of 5:37.
In the 3200 meter run Elizabeth Smith finished in 16th place with a personal best time of 12:57.
In the 800 meter run Patricia was ranked 13th and finished 7th overall. The difference between 3rd and 7th was 1.5 seconds. Samantha finished in 10th and only 1.5 seconds behind Patricia. The race was well bunched at the finish. Both girls had personal best times. Patricia Smith’s time was 2:25 and Samantha’s was 2:26.
Allie Stewart finished 7th in the high jump. She was in until she missed her jump at 5’2″. This was a personal best for Stewart.
Both Brittany Banning and Dani Martino went out earlier in the high jump.
In the long jump Amie Stewart did not make the final cut.
Banning, Amie and Allie Stewart got eliminated in their bid for the finals in the sprints and hurdles.
The meet ended high school track for the year, but with the Smith sisters coming up and other exciting athletes on the team next year is sure to be great.
