Price law enforcement relocation concludes era at old police station

As winter 2006 came to an end, so did an era at the police station in Price.
The Price City Police Department has finished moving into the former United States Bureau of Land Management building.
The local law enforcement agency’s relocation has left theold police headquarters vacant.
Many Carbon County residents have voiced ongoing questions about what will occupy the empty building.
There has been extensive discussion as to what will be housed in the building, according to Price officials.
Discussions have also focused on what kind of renovations will be completed to house the public entities in the building.
Some concern surfaced regarding the cost of the remodeling the building. But the Carbon County Commission has agreed to pay up to $14,000 of the related expenditures.
In the event the costs happen to exceed the amount the commission has agreed to pay, the city will cover the remaining expenses.
Mayor Joe Piccolo has indicated that the cost will most likely not exceed the limit,. The mayor also stated that the project is on schedule and currently under budget.
In addition, Piccolo indicated that he believes that the goals for the building will be met.
Price community director Nick Tatton recently presented a draft of the lease agreement to the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce, economic development, Carbon County Travel Bureau and Carbon County Recreation. These entities will be using the building which will be referred to as the Community Economic Development Office. The building isn’t limited to these few entities but will be available to other government agencies.
The city has also looked into putting Foster Grandparents and Price Main Street into the building.
The purpose of this building is to help direct local members of the community, as well as those traveling through, to the destinations that they may be seeking. This will provide answers anyone may have about the local area and also cut down on time people spend driving from one building to another just to answer one question. This will go in conjunction with the possible combining of the city entities that was proposed earlier in the year by the city council.
