Hundreds of track and field athletes descend on Price

Before the big invitational track meet that Carbon High held on Saturday, March 20, the coaching staff and team had a run with the new timing and computer system. On March 15, the school competed against the other five teams in Region 8.
During that startup meet Carbon’s Beau Morley, a 9th grader, placed 6th in the 1600 meter run and Amie Stewart ran a great set of hurdles placing 4th in the 100 meter hurdles and 2nd in the 300 meter hurdles. Amie Stewart also won the ladies long jump event.
But where there is an Amie there also seems to be an Allie. Allie Stewart, Amie’s sister, ran close to Amie to place 5th in the 100 meter hurdles and 6th in the long jump.
The girls 4×100 relay team composed of both Stewarts, Britney Banning,and Danielle Martino ran away from the field to claim 1st place.
Martino also won the high jump and was 2nd in the 100 meter dash. Banning placed 5th in the girls high jump and first in the girls 100 meter dash. Mikaleen Loveless placed 5th in the girls long jump and 5th in the 800 meter run. In the throwing events Marsha Jensen placed 5th in the shotput and 4th in the discus. The javelin was led by Danielle Olson with a 3rd place finish followed by Emilie Dunn in 5th and Candra Nelson in 6th place.
The boys placed first in javelin with Chris Henrie taking the top honor and Randy Jones took fourth place.
In the boys discus throw Mark Jensen placed 4th, followed by Ryan Leonard in 5th and Stetson Kunz in 6th place. Stetson also placed 2nd in the boys shotput, while Mark Jensen placed 5th.
In the jumping events Bryce Dinkleman showed promise placing 3rd over all.
Leo Yu led the boys in the 100 meter sprint with an 8th place finish.
The 200 meter run brought Jacob Perez 3rd place, followed by Brandon Hackwell in 5th place.
In the 3200 meter run Paul Goodrich placed 1st followed by Ted Prettyman in 2nd, and Kent Olson in 3rd place.
Tyler Munns placed 5th in the 800 meter run. Jason Child led Carbon High jumpers by placing 4th with Kunz in 5th place.
Then came the Saturday meet. There were 869 athletes competing from 24 teams There were schools from all five high school classifications.
Carbon High was led by Amie Stewart who qualified for state in her first qualifying meet by placing 3rd in the long jump with a leap of 16 ft. even. Amie Stewart also placed 7th in the 100 meter hurdles and 8th in the 300 meter hurdles.
Banning placed 5th in the long jump with Allie Stewart finishing 7th in the girls 100 meter hurdles.
Maquette Potts had a good day competing as she placed 3rd in the girls high jump.
During the meet all Carbon’s athletes competed well with a lot of personal best time, throws, and jumps.
