School district sponsorsed programs for adults

More than 300 local residents per year complete adult education programs sponsored by Carbon School District.
Earning a general education development (GED) or a high school diploma is easier than people may think.
Utah and Carbon County have several programs dedicated to adult education for people 17 years of age or older.
Adult education programs are funded through federal grants.
Congress uses a formula that decides how much money each state receives for adult education programs.
When money is received, the state distributes the funds to local programs that provide adult education and literacy services.
Programs that may be accessed by local residents include the electronic high school, GED on television (PBS), Carbon County Adult Education Coalition, College of Eastern Utah, department of workforce services, ABC Learning Center and New Heights Clubhouse.
The electronic high school is a good resource for Internet classes that will count as credits toward a high school diploma.
Anyone may register for the electronic classes.
The courses are convenient for working people and high school students who need extra credits to graduate.
Carbon School District adult education allows participants several ways to earn credits for receiving a high school diploma. Internet classes, work experience, military experience and the GED exam may be used for credits to receive a high school diploma.
If completed and passed, a GED exam can earn the test taker five high school credits. There are sites on the Internet to find practice tests and free resources to help prepare for taking GED tests.
The Lighthouse also has practice guides and tests available for people interested in taking a GED exam.
Previously earned credits can also be used for a diploma no matter how long ago the program participant attended high school.
A credit evaluation may be given along with GED tutoring from the adult education program located at the Lighthouse in Price.
Only 24 credits are necessary for graduation from the adult education program.
The Internet also has many choices for earning a high school diploma, but before attempting to use an Internet diploma program, research on the program needs to be done before trying to obtain a high school diploma through it. Some schools located on the Internet may be scams or are not properly accredited to award diplomas.
Workplace education programs are also a way of learning basic skills. These programs focus on the literacy and skill training that employees will need to gain employment, retain present jobs, increase productivity, or advance in their careers.
Educators for workplace education programs develop the curriculum by working with employers and groups of employees to determine what reading, computation, speaking and reasoning skills are required to perform their job effectively. Strong partnerships between educators, employees and employers are required for a workplace education program to be successful.
