It’s become an annual ritual for the Carbon High girls basketball team.
Play a couple of preseason games, win those; play at the Emery tournament, win that. Feeling the sting of defeat, never.
The Lady Dinos proved that adage once again on Friday and Saturday nights as they beat Judge Memorial 38-33 and then took it to Dixie High 49-35.
It’s just becoming old hat for this team.
However, against Judge, Carbon’s offense did struggle. After barely outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 10-9 in the first quarter of the game, Carbon had a miserable second period only putting four points on the board and falling behind at the half 16-14.
The third quarter wasn’t much better as the Lady Dinos were only able to manage 10 points, but the team from Salt Lake was even more anemic with only a six point production for the period.
With a two point lead and an undefeated season on the line the team from Price finally came to life in the fourth quarter scoring 14 points, while holding the Judge girls to 11.
Carbon was lead by Morgan Warburton with 22 points while Maquette Potts scored eight.
The frustration of a weak Dino game on Friday night didn’t bode well for poor Dixie which came into Saturday’s contest win less. This time the Carbon juggernaut was much more well tuned, and they ate the Lady Flyers for lunch in the first half.
At the end of the first quarter Carbon only led 12-8 but in the next period the Lady Dinos scored 21 points to only eight for Dixie.
It looked to be a complete rout, but there was still another half to play. Dixie didn’t play much better in the second half, but Carbon went backwards with only 16 points in the second period.
In this game Warburton had 19 points while Halee Rasmussen scored 12.
The Lady Dinos now play Uintah in Vernal tonight (Tuesday) and then come back to the Dinogym for their first home game of the year against Wastach on Friday evening.
The team will also have two more home games next week against Cedar City (Dec. 14) and Park City (Dec. 16).
