East Carbon’s Samantha Madrid, working here against a Manila player, was the high scorer for the Lady Vikings in their loss to Dugway last week.

When the East Carbon girls basketball team traveled to the West of Salt Lake again in a week they hoped that the same luck that was with them when they beat Wendover a week ago would be with them.
But it wasn’t and holiday cheer was not on tap when the bus ride home took place as the Dugway Lady Mustangs beat the kids from the school in Sunnyside 46-24.
With the loss the teams record fell to 1-5 overall and 1-1 in Region 18 play.
During the contest the team did not reach double figures in any quarter they played as Dugway beat them in every period.
The first period started off bad with the team only scoring 8 points, verses Dugways 13.
The second quarter was almost a carbon copy of the first as the Lady Mustangs rang up another 13 points, but East Carbon produced even less at 6.
Thirteen was the number for the night for Dugway when in the third period they again put that many points through the net. East Carbon was only able to manage 7.
In the final quarter both teams struggled as neither were able to muster much offense. Between the two they only scored 10 points.
The leading scorer for East Carbon was Samantha Madrid with 9 points.
The Lady Vikings now go on an extended break not playing again until the night of Jan. 4 when they are away to face Tintic in Eureka.
