Looking for something to do during the holidays?
Many people go over the mountain for their entertainment, particularly for cultural events. But there is a lot to do right here in Carbon County.
Special events abound during the holidays, including the following.
•The Nutcracker and the Grinch at the Rio Theater on Nov. 29 and 30.
•The Helper Electric Light Parade in Helper on Dec. 3 and 4.
•The Medieval Feast that runs Dec 8 through Dec. 11.
•A Christmas concert at the Price Auditorium on Dec. 14.

But just as important are the on going venues that continually evolve almost monthly in the county.
For instance, each Thursday night the Price Culture Connection presents outstanding talents in the Civic Auditorium for absolutely no admission cost.
Standing cultural events also show up with poetry readings at the College of Eastern Utah monthly and musical presentations at the college as well.
Another area of entertainment that people ought to consider as well are the wonderful museums in the area and the art they display. While the Western Mining and Railroad Museum is known for its period displays there is also art in the museum as well. And of course Helper’s Main Street has many artist’s studios right along the curb where people can not only see the work that is done but often meet the artists as they produce it.
The CEU Prehistoric Museum also has a lot of art in its regular displays with artists such as Joe Venus and Lynn Fausett’s works displayed.
Another venue that changes the art displayed almost monthly is the Gallery East exhibit on the CEU campus. This month it is displaying works by faculty at the college. The talent exhibited there is second to none.
Carbon County has a lot to offer its residents in terms of culture, more than almost any other rural county in Utah.
