The night before Thanksgiving Tooele and Carbon tangled with each other in a home game for the Dinos. Tooele won 63-50.

When the Tooele boys basketball team came to town on Wednesday night the Carbon Dinos hoped to talk some turkey with them, and come away with a win.
But instead of the home team taking away a early season record of 1-0 from the contest, the Buffaloes were able to have an early dinner, dining on the Dinos propensity to turn over the ball with a 63-50 victory.
However the Carbon boys also showed that despite any deficit they may face they do have the ability to come back as they won the second half scoring, but gave away the game because of first half miscues.
Both teams came out of the gate gunning the ball, but the Buffaloes were more on target as the broke away to an early lead in the quarter 10-3, before the Dino scoring machine began to warm up. At the end of the first quarter the score read 15-9. The small crowd that attended the game was restless after that first period, hoping to see Carbon come back and show what they could do. What they saw in the second quarter was, however, pretty much the same.
Tooele came out as hot as they were in the first and then began to steal the ball even more. However the Carbon teams enthusiasm kept them going, even though the quarter finished with the Dinos behind 30-16.
Many on the north side of the gym looked pretty depressed during halftime, but they had a show coming their way they didn’t expect as the Carbon boys put a press on the Buffaloes every time the kids from Tooele got possession of the ball. That very fact made a big difference as the Dinos managed to stay even through the quarter with each team scoring 14 more.
In the fourth quarter the Dinos were able to keep it up and came within six points of catching the Buffaloes, but then the run slipped away and the Tooele team upped the scoring enough to stay ahead and take the win.
While Carbon may have lost their first game of the season, no one can count out their hustle or their desire. They will win their share of games this year.
The scoring for the Dinos was led by Miles Hunsaker and Chase Julian with 12 points each. Tyler Nelson backed them up with 8 and Cameron Oliver and Schyler Namany with 6.
Namany’s scoring came on two three pointers, while Oliver and Julian added one each.
This years Dino team has 24 total players on it made up largely of juniors and sophomores. Only four seniors appear on the roster, so it is a young team, but has some good talent.
Carbon now takes to the road to play games tonight (Tuesday) at Uintah High in Vernal and then onto Weber County for the Ben Lomand Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
