Letter to the Editor: Kokopelli not appropriate

What kind of statement are we trying to make by putting the statue of a sex-god on our Main Street. When I first heard this, I didn’t believe it, so I looked up Kokopelli, and sure enough it symbolizes an Anasazi god of fertility…yes a sex god.
I’m sorry, but this really disturbs me. Many people may not think this is a big deal, but I think it’s sending the wrong message. If the intention was to draw people to Nine Mile Canyon then why not put up a statue of an actual Indian, one native to our area, not a symbol of one of the gods they worshiped.
