Autumn Fest Art Exhibit – The John Wesley Powell River History Museum Art Gallery, 885 East Main, Green River, is hosting the Autumn Fest Art Exhibit with works by prominent Utah artists. The exhibit runs from September 27 through December 31, 2004.

Volunteers Needed – Rocky Mountain Hospice and Faith in Action Volunteer program is looking for caring volunteers who would like to work with elderly people who do not qualify for Home Health or Hospice care but could use companionship, someone to call to see and check that they are all right, someone to run the errands they can no longer do. Volunteers will try to help these people live as independently as possible in their own homes. Art Exhibit – at Museum of the San Rafael, 64 North 100 East in Castle Dale. The museum will be hosting Joseph S. Venus art exhibit, prehistoric, wildlife and western art of Utah from September to December 2004.
Food Handlers Classes – for all persons working in restaurants, bars, nursing homes, school cafeterias, convenience stores or grocery deli’s. Classes will be taught in Price on November 17 and December 8 at 9 a.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Southeastern Utah District Health Department, located at 28 South 100 East in Price, and in Castle Dale on November 18, and December 9 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Health Department located at 25 West Main St. The classes are two hours in length and the cost is $10.00 to take the test. Santa Visits Helper – The Helper Lions Club will hold its annual Santa Claus visitation on November 26 at the Helper Civic Auditorium at 7:00 p.m.
C.A.R.E. Program – The Price area has been developing a C.A.R.E. Program with the Alzheimer’s Association. The program needs caregivers who could use a break from the constant chores of taking care of a family member with memory loss. The program also needs volunteers to help provide companion services while the caregiver gets a much needed break for 1-3 hours. Volunteers will be reimbursed for mileage. The C.A.R.E. program for the Alzheimer’s Association of Utah is in the Price R.S.V.P. office which is located in the Carbon County Senior Citizens building, 30 East 200 South in Price. Helper City Community Development Committee – All interested parties are invited to attend the Community Development Committee Meeting of Helper City every Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the meeting room at the Helper Civic Auditorium or in the Library in the Auditorium. This committee has been formed by Volunteers to acquire a new Helper City Community Pool.
Free Legal Clinic – In cooperation with the Seventh District Court, Utah Legal Services is holding a Free Legal Clinic on the second and fourth Monday of each month at the Seventh District Courthouse located at 149 East 100 South in Price. Casa Volunteers Needed – Each year hundreds of children in Carbon and Emery counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Frontier Project – A local Family Support Group, Frontier Family F.U.T.U.R.E.S. meets every third Thursday in Carbon County. This is an organized parent education and support group. Anyone interested is invited to participate. Meetings begin at 7:00 at the Castle Valley Center, 755 North Cedar Hills Dr. in Price. Childcare and refreshments are available. Foster Grandparents – Volunteers of America-Utah needs grandparents to join the Foster Grandparent Program team. Foster Grandparents receive a modest non-taxable stipend of about $200 per month. Individuals who are at least 60 years old; love children; have a limited income, and extra time to share may qualify. FGP volunteers serve 20 hours per week in local schools, and receive a daily meal, a yearly physical, accident and liability insurance while on duty, and transportation to and from the school. Family Support & Children’s Justice Center – offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. Crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Families may use the nursery for respite, family crisis, court, doctors appointments, medical emergencies, mental health appointments, escaping family violence, attending parenting classes/divorce classes and AA/Narcotic Anonymous meetings. CEU Ballet Repertory Ensemble – announces these concert dates: The Nutcracker and Grinch, Nov. 18-22 at the Geary Theatre, and Nov. 29 & 30 at the Rio Theatre in Helper. Stewart Foster Dinner – Help us honor Stewart Foster for his contributions to sports and Carbon County. A dinner in his honor will be held November 20 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Mont Harmon Junior High cafeteria. Dinner will include salad, spaghetti and meatballs, vegetable, bread and dessert. Come eat, visit with Stew, see the memorabilia and more. Tickets are $5 per person and $25 for an entire family. Tickets are available from any high school swimmer, Smith’s Food King, Oliveto Fine Furnishings, and Ann’s Hallmark. All proceeds will be used to benefit swimming in Carbon County.
