Dino football started the 2004 season on Aug. 20 with a 33-0 loss to San Juan. The team will regroup this week for Friday’s matchup against Uintah.

With any major change to an athletic program, such as the entire coaching overhaul Carbon High football experienced after the 2003 season, there often comes a certain degree of over speculation by fans and the community.
Carbon High football began the 2004 season against San Juan, a 2A program, under such scrutiny.
Friday night’s game against the Broncos was a disappointing start to the year, as the Dinos lost to San Juan 33-0.
However, new head coach Lane Herrick said he is not too concerned with the opening game and still has high expectations for the season.
“We have the talent and the kids,” he pointed out. “It’s just a matter of getting them where they are supposed to be.”
San Juan came out firing in the Aug. 20 game, scoring 20 points in the first quarter while Carbon struggled with turnovers and miss cues.
The Broncos were able to add 10 more in the second quarter and three in the third.
This week, Herrick said the practices will focus on making some needed position adjustments, continuing to orient the first year players and pushing the team toward being more confident.
“We’ve just got to continue to press on and hopefully the community will help the kids be positive,” he indicated.
Carbon will host the 3A Uintah Utes on Aug. 27. Game time is 7 p.m.
