Jesse Arroyo Jr.
SUNNYSIDE/EDGEWOOD, Wash. – Our loving son, brother, father and grandfather passed away suddenly at his home in Edgewood, Wash. on Aug. 2, 2004.
Jesse was born March 10, 1941 in Greeley, Colo. to Jesse Arroyo and Mary Barajas Arroyo. He married Louise De’Herrera and they had two daughters, Michelle and Dennise. They later divorced. He then married Julie Zisumbo and they had three daughters, Nancy, Dottie and Jessica. They were also divorced. He attended East Carbon High and graduated in 1961. He also served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany.
Jesse was a hard working and gentle man to all who knew him. He had many friends in the Washington area. He always referred to his daughters as his (little Moose’s) and always taught them to never stop learning. He retired from Boeing after 37 years of service as a missile technician.
He is survived by his five daughters, Michelle (Ralph) Buzis and Dennise (Robert) Verdin, Salt Lake City; Nancy Mendez and Dottie and Jessica Arroyo, Ogden; grandchildren, Preston, Bianca, Reyes, Jesse, Maria, Jeremy and Jewel. mother and father, Jesse and Mary Arroyo, Sunnyside; brothers, Louis (Carolyn), Salt Lake City; Alex (Sherry), Helper; and Dennis Arroyo, Sunnyside; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Cremation was under the direction of Powers Funeral Home in Washington. Memorial service will be held Wednesday, Aug. 25 at Good Shepard Catholic church in East Carbon, 4 p.m., by Fr. Don E. Hope.
William Huntsman
ST. GEORGE – William J. Huntsman, 94, passed away Aug. 18, 2004 from congestive heart failure in St. George.
He was born Oct. 8, 1909 in Richfield to William Moroni and Mary Hannah Hansen Huntsman. He married Virginia Roylance on Dec. 25, 1929, she is deceased. He married Ellen Louise Hemming Matson on Dec. 26, 1985 and their marriage was solemnized in the St. George LDS Temple on Sept. 28, 1989.
J had a great work ethic which he developed working in the family sawmill. He later went to work for the Denver Rio Grande Railroad where he retired after 47 years as the building and bridge supervisor. J loved the outdoors and traveled much throughout the country.
He is survived by wife, Ellen; daughter, Cherie Vance of West Valley City; stepdaughters, Becky Ann (John) McCormack of Blackfoot, Idaho; and Bilene (Steve) Chubbuck of West Valley City; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; brothers and sister, Aerius, Berdean, Clifford and Vera. He is preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Robert, Volco, Blanche, Christine and Ileen.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the heart associations of Utah in J’s name. The family would also like to express deep appreciation to Applegate Hospice, Horizon Health Care and Kolob Care Center.
Funeral services were Saturday, Aug. 21 at Metcalf Mortuary in St. George. Interment, St. George City Cemetery under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary.
Artell Jewkes
PRICE – Artell Nielson Jewkes, 90, passed away Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004 in Price.
She was born Jan. 21, 1914 in Cleveland, to Willard Richard and Kisty E. Larsen Nielson. She married Fred Jewkes and they made their home in Carbon County. He passed away in 1972.
Artell was a member of the LDS Church and enjoyed relief society. She was an avid reader and was a woman who enjoyed the simple things in life. Above all else, she loved her family and was a wonderful mother and grandmother.
Artell is survived by two children, JoAnn Brandon of Rockland, Calif.; and son, Richard and Myrna Jewkes of Price; six grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Also survived by a dear brother, Kenneth Nielson, whose kindness to his sister is much appreciated by her family. Preceded in death by two infant children who died at birth, three brothers and one sister. The family would like to thank the staff at Parkdale Care Center for their kindness in caring for their mother.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 27, 11 a.m., in the Price 4th/5th LDS Ward Chapel where friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial, Price City Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
LaRue Dunn
HELPER – LaRue “Prudy” Morley Dunn, age 78, passed away Aug. 18, 2004 at Parkdale Care Center in Price.
Born Jan. 17, 1926 in Vernal to Austin and Lena Meyers Morley. Married Norman Patterson in LDS Temple, later divorced. Married Leo B. Dunn, July 1, 1967 in Mack, Colo. He died May 18, 2001.
Member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Lifelong resident of Carbon County where she worked for Western Union and U.S. Steel. “Prudy” loved bowling and she bowled for “Mitchell’s Mummies” for many years. She will be dearly missed by her family and many dear friends.
Survived by children, R. Scott (Michelle) Dunn, West Jordan; Diana (Michael) Baker, West Valley; four grandchildren, Mark Dunn, Portland, Ore.; Cheryl (Garrett) Walin, Kearns; Terence Strawhun, Omaha, Neb.; Kimberly Pratt, West Valley; and five loving great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents; daughter, Peggy Ann Patterson; son, Gregory Daniel Patterson; one sister and three brothers.
Graveside service was Saturday, Aug. 21 at Price City Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
