The crowd gathers at the fairgrounds in anticipation of the annual CC Search and Rescue demolition derby. |
This past saturday the annual Carbon County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue demolition derby was held at the fairgrounds in Price. In addition to the 40 contestants entered in the derby, thousands of spectators flocked to the arena for the action.
The derby featured four preliminary heats, each very hotly contested, followed by a final round and ending with a “wipe out” competition. For the wipe out event, 32 cars that had been in previous heats made their way back into the arena to compete in a “second chance” battle to be the last vehicle running.
The derby was made possible by the donation of time, money, and prizes by a vast group of local businesses, organizations, and individuals.
In addition to various prizes donated by local businesses, the highlight of the event was a drawing wherin a complete derby car was awarded to Chuck Davis of Castle Dale. That car was entered and destroyed in the next heat.
The event was a remarkable success thanks to the drivers, pit crews, sponsors, and fans, with the money raised going to support the all-volunteer C.C.S. Search & Rescue operation.
