As the desert heats up and we head into our first long weekend of the summer many people will head to the mountains to find relief along the streams, lakes and shaded meadows. The mountains that surround eastern Utah received a bit more moisture this past spring and winter and most mountain meadows and valleys are still very lush and green. Spring flowers are in full bloom and Eastern Utah is blessed to have a variety of mountain experiences.
By the time the newspaper hits the streets most good camping spots in the surrounding mountain areas, however once the July 4th weekend is over we still have plenty of summer to enjoy the mountains and the many recreational opportunities it offers.
There is something for everyone this weekend as the festival season kicks into high gear. For starters, fireworks will be set off at dusk Friday night at the Carbon County Fair Grounds in Price and then Saturday night fireworks will fill the skies over Scofield during Pleasant Valley Days.
In addition to the firework’s shows Huntington is celebrating its annual Heritage Days beginning July 3 and running through the 6th. Clawson Days are also set this weekend. And in Scofield Pleasant Valley Days will pick off Saturday morning with a breakfast and run throughout the day.
Maybe you want to take in one of the festivals but also want to enjoy the recreation. This time of the year offers a variety of opportunities. We have some of the best backpacking, biking, and hiking trails in the state. At the top of many people’s list will be 4X4ing, ATVing, fishing, boating, swimming and golfing. Many people travel to this area just to explore and visit the incredible number of unique and historic cemeteries. And don’t forget the stock car races this weekend down in Price.
