Members of the Carbon Babe Ruth 14 year old all-star team take a break in the dugout. Last week, the team competed in the state tournament in West Valley. After defeating the Cypress/Hunter squad on July 24, the Carbon team advanced to the championship game and played Taylorsville. The local team went into the fourth inning with a 3-0 lead but Taylorsville rallied to win the game, 4-6. Because of the disappointing finish, Carbon finished the tourney with second place trophies.
Earlier this week however, the Carbon all-stars got word that due to various circumstances, they would now advance to the Pacific Southwest Tournament as the number one team in Utah. Carbon will kick off the tournament July 31 at 7:30 p.m. at the Ken Price Ball Complex in Murray. The all-stars will also compete Saturday and Monday at the northern Utah ball complex. The local ball club will be one of 18 teams from the western U.S. to compete in the event.
