Little League contestants from Carbon and Emery counties will compete this coming week in the annual WBBA tournament. |
The Western Boys Baseball Association leagues in the Carbon and Emery areas recently completed their regular season play and are now looking forward to tournament play which begins July 7 and will take place on three different fields.
Representatives of the various leagues met with WBBA regional director, Walt Borla last week and scheduled the format for post-season action this year.
Activity will begin with round robin play in both the major and minor league groups.
Seven teams are entered in the major division which consists of players age 11 to 12. The teams include Helper, Price National, Sunnyside, Green River, Price National Red, Northern Heights Gray and Northern Heights Black.
The top four teams for each category after the two weeks of round robin competition will qualify for a double elimination meet to determine the regional champions.
The minor league double elimination tournament will begin on the Price national field on July 19 with a possible completion date of July 24.
Major league double elimination tournament play get underway July 25 and will conlcude by July 31. These games will also be played on the Price National field.
The winner of the major league tournament will qualify for the little world series of WBBA baseball to be played in Roosevelt. This competition will begin August 5 and will run throughout the week with the championship game scheduled for August 9.
Two games will kick off the local tournament Monday afternoon. Both games will be conducted on the Price National field.
The Price National Red team will compete against Northern Heights Gray beginning at 3:30 p.m. This game will be followed with Sunnyside competing against Northern Heights Black at 6 p.m.
The following day, Helper majors will host Sunnyside at 3:30 p.m. on the Helper field and will be followed by Helper minors facing Sunnyside at 6 p.m.
Meanwhile, on the Price National field, the Price National White major will face Green River at 3:30 p.m. and Price National minors will host Green River at 6 p.m.
The July 19 games will consist of major teams Green River and Price National Red competing in Green River at 6 p.m.
The Northern Heights minors will face Sunnyside at 3:30 p.m. on the Price National field and will be followed by Northern Heights Gray majors facing Sunnyside at 6 p.m. on the Price National field.
