Baseball action continues to heat up across the county as teams from Price, Helper and Green River compete in the annual Western Boys Baseball Association’s all-star tournament.
This past Tuesday, the minor league teams wrapped up the round robin tournament action with the Price National, Helper, Northern Heights and Green River teams advancing to the region tourney scheduled to begin July 19.
Green River completed their final two games with victories. On Monday, the team defeated Sunnyside by the final score of 17-2. The following afternoon, Green River captured a 6-4 win over Northern Heights.
The Northern Heights team landed themselves a region tournament seeding by defeating Helper 11-8 during a Monday afternoon game.
The final minor league game to take place during the round robin tourney pitted Sunnyside against the Price National team. The Price team successfully captured the win by the final 19-0.
The minor league region tourney will kick off this Saturday and will be a double elimination event.
The event was scheduled to take place at the Price National Field, however the park area in south Price is unavailable for Saturday’s games. Therefore, the games will be played on the Walt Borla Field in Helper. The remaining games will take place at the Price field.
Green River will play Northern Heights beginning at 4:30 p.m., July 19 in Helper. Following the opening game, Price National will take on Helper.
Although the stage is set for the minor league region tourney, it is still anybody’s ball game in the major league.
During the July 14 games, Green River defeated Sunnyside 10-1 and Northern Heights Gray defeated Helper, 11-8.
The following afternoon, Northern Heights Gray bounced back to capture a win by the final, 6-5 over Green River.
The Price National White team also landed a victory as they defeated Sunnyside, 18-7.
To round out Tuesday’s action, Helper defeated Northern Heights Black by the final, 17-6.
The major league teams will continue to compete throughout Friday.
Following the conclusion of the week’s events, the top four ranked teams will move on to compete in the region tournament to begin July 25 in Price.
