Anglers will take advantage of free fishing day in Utah next Saturday. |
Fishing waters throughout Utah should see plenty of anglers Saturday, June 14, as the Division of Wildlife Resources conducts free fishing day throughout the state.
Utah residents will not need a fishing license to fish in the state that day. All other regulations found in the 2003 Utah fishing proclamation will be in effect however.
“We’re trying to attract people to fishing by having a free day,” explained sport fisheries coordinator for the DWR, Tom Pettengill.
Wildlife division staff will treat free fishing day as they would a holiday weekend. The division will stock additional fish to meet the additional demand.
Pettengill advises anglers who participate in the event to focus their efforts on lakes and reservoirs, as this is where most of the fish stocked for the free event will be placed.
The fisheries coordinator reminds those fishing June 14 that while no license is required, all other limits and regulations found in the 2003 Utah fishing proclamation will be in effect.
Anglers, especially those who might be fishing for the first time, are encouraged to pick up a copy of the proclamation and learn the rules.
Proclamations are available from fishing license agents statewide, at DWR offices throughout the state and at the DWR’s Internet website at wildlife.utah.gov.
