Fairgrounds scheduling – Groups and organizations wishing to reserve the fairgrounds facilities must pick up and return completed request forms to the county courthouse before Feb. 7. For information, contact Rhonda Peterson at 636-3233.
Rape crisis hotline – Rape or domestic violence victims in the Carbon-Emery County area may contact the local 24-hour crisis line toll-free at 1-866-894-8610.
Food handlers classes – Two-hour sessions are slated at the health department in Price on Feb. 12 and March 12 at 9 a.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Test fees required. Classes will be offered at the health district in Castle Dale on Feb. 20 and March 20 at 4 and 7 p.m.
Parenting for teens – The Family Support and Children’s Justice Center in Price offers a free class dealing with the issues, problems and difficulties facing teen parents. Participants learn about available resources, assistance to help youth return/remain in school, parenting/life skills, cooking and recreation opportunities. Contact Terry Willis at 637-0281.
Frontier project – works to empower local families. The program needs youth mentors. For information, contact the project at 637-1497.
Carbon County Triad – meets the first Wednesday of the month at 2 p.m. at Price senior center. Members focus on law enforcement and aging programs to assist the elderly.
Lifeline pregnancy assistance, support center – The facility offers free confidential pregnancy testing, verification, counseling and baby supplies. Residents may contact the center by calling the 24-hour telephone line at 636-0700.
Carbon County Humane Society – The non-profit organization offers monthly spay and neuter clinics at 98 North Carbon Avenue in Price. For information, call the humane society at 637-2908.
Carbon County Animal Shelter – AVID chip pet identification is available at the shelter. Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Foster parents – The local DCFS office needs foster parents willing to work with teens and provide emergency shelter care. For information, contact Cindy Saccomanno at 636-0219.
Helper library – Hours are Monday through Wednesday from noon until 8 p.m.; Thursday from noon to 6 p.m.; Friday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.; closed Saturday and Sunday. Contact the library at 472-5601.

Family Support & Children’s Justice Center – offers crisis care for children from infants to 11 years old. The nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Residents may use the nursery for respite, crisis, court, doctors appointments, medical emergencies, mental health appointments, escaping violence, attending parenting classes/divorce classes and AA/Narcotic Anonymous meetings. Parenting classes are scheduled Thursday at 1:30 p.m. For information, call the center at 637-0281.
Child Care Resource & Referral – offers information on becoming child care providers and referrals for parents, employees or employers needing related services. For information, contact the agency at 613-5619.
Helper mining museum – From Oct. 1 to April 30, hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. From May 1 to Sept. 30, hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tours may be scheduled. For information, contact Helen Tonc at 472-3009.
Prehistoric museum – From Nov. 1 to March 31, hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. From April 1 to Oct. 31, hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Call the museum at 613-5060.
Events
Free throw competition – Council 2611 Knights of Columbus will sponsor the local competition for youth ages 10 to 14 years old on Feb. 1 at 8:30 a.m. at Helper Junior High gym. Local participants are recognized and winners advance to the state and district events. Boys and girls muse furnish proof of age and written parental consent. Winterfest – will be presented Feb. 8 in the gym at Notre Dame School. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m Activities include games, kiddie booths, refreshments and a silent auction. Tickets may be purchased at the door.

VFW field officer – will be at the Price workforce office Feb. 20 from 8:30 to 10 a.m. to assist veterans with VA matters.
