Cassie Terrell winds up for a pitch during a preseason softball game last month.

After dominating competition during the preseason, the Lady Dinos softball team kicked off the Region 8 season last Thursday as the team traveled to Castle Dale to take on the Emery Spartans.
Although the Dinos completed the preseason strong with an 8-4 record, the Carbon team felt that the regular season would start off smoothly.
The Spartans who finished the preseason with a 6-6 record proved the Dinos wrong however as they jumped ahead of Carbon to hand the Dinos their first loss of the regular season, 22-12.
Despite the early season loss, the Dinos remain confident and look forward to continuing action this week.
With an experienced varsity team and an up and coming junior varsity and sophomore team to back them up, the Dinos should find success in Region 8 this year.
Each game, the Dinos show improvement while capitalizing on the strengths which the team already possesses.
“We have been working on our defensive skills. They seem to be coming around each game, but we realize there is still room for improvement,” Dino coach Tony Pinedo explained last week.
“We tend to make a couple of mistakes and the opponent’s just capitalize on it. The year is still young however and we still have time to make adjustments,” Pinedo continued.
The Dinos hope to bounce back from the road loss as they return home Tuesday afternoon to host Lehi.
The varsity team will take to the field at 3 p.m. on the fairground field.
Also on the Dinos roster this week is North Sanpete. Carbon will hit the road Thursday to compete against their second Region 8 opponent of the week.
As the regular season rapidly progresses, the Dinos hope to gain control of the region standings to find themselves included in the state tourney.
