The Carbon High baseball team kicked off the Region 8 season last Friday at home as the team hosted the Emery Spartans. The weather was chilly, but the baseball action was hot.
The Spartans opened up the game at bat. The team felt that they had the upper hand stepping up to plate first, but the Dinos shattered this dream quickly.
Emery returned to the dugout without a run on the scoreboard.
When the Dinos stepped up to bat in the bottom of the first, the team came out swinging.
By scoring two runs in the first, the home team had opened the doors to a competative ball game.
By the top of the fourth inning, the Dinos were sitting comfortably ahead of the Spartans 6-0.
Emery started reaching down deep to try and muster a comeback, but the Dinos made sure that this would not become a reality.
Carbon continued to play strong and committed very few mistakes.
By the end of seven innings, the Dinos had held on to their six point lead to shut out the Spartans in their first Region 8 regular season game.
Dino pitcher, Troy Grundy pitched a one-hitter and had 14 strike outs in the season opener.
“This was a good way to kick off the season. Grundy had a tremendous game and the team played strong. It was a complete team effort and a great win for us,” explained Dino head coach, Lane Herrick.
The Dinos look forward to resuming season action this Tuesday as they travel to Lehi on Tuesday.
The team will then return home Friday to host North Sanpete. Action will kick off at 3 p.m.
