Janet Herzet, Owen Cato and Violet Olsen race to the finish line at Tuesday’s ‘scoodeo’ event. Local residents depending on scooters for mobility and independence participated in the educational activity, sponsored by Active Re-Entry, Southeastern Utah Health District and the housing authority. Sheriff James Cordova and public health official Georgina Nowak explained the laws and safety issues involved in driving the scooters. Riders were tested on the ability to turn, stop and apply safe driving techniques. Scooter drivers must adhere to pedestrian laws.
