Isaac Goodrich has had a successful season for the Carbon Dinos this year. The talented cross country athlete has captured several first place finishes this year including a first place finish at the Region 8 championships last week. The next step for Goodrich is to compete for a state title at the championship meet this week in Salt Lake City.

The Carbon High Dinos cross country team competed last week in the Region 8 championships which took place at North Sanpete High. The hard work and dedication paid off for the Dinos who easily advanced to the state finals which will take place Oct. 23.
To kick things off, Melanie Madsen battled it out through the entire race with North Sanpete runner Amber Bockwag. The three mile race was close as Madsen slipped into second place behind Bockwag. Madsen’s time was 20 minutes, 33 seconds which was 26 seconds faster than she ran the course in September.
Ashley Rowley was the second Dino runner to cross the finish line as placed 10th in the region race. Rowley and Madsen each received medals for their top ten finishes in the championship race.
Janelle Bates placed 12th followed by Brittnay Horrocks who crossed the finish line in 15th place.
Elizabeth Brooks finished the region meet in 16th place and was followed by Dino runner Jana Burrows in 29th place and Ashley Anderson in 30th place.
These top seven girls will now participate at the state championships to represent the Dino team.
Annie Jensen crossed the finish line in 31st place at the region meet while Erika Flowers finished in 36th place and Briana Scoville in 37th place.
As a team, the Carbon girls placed second behind North Sanpete. The team will now move on and should finish strong at the state finals.
In the boys division, Dino runners Scott Terry and Isaac Goodrich dueled it out with two Lehi runners. After they had broke the Lehi runners down, it was every man for himself.
Goodrich pulled away from Terry to finish in first place with a time of 17 minutes, 5 seconds. Terry crossed the finish line next in second place. This was a change of pace for the Dino twosome who finished last week with Terry in first and Goodrich in second place. The two top runners will now advance to the state finals on Wednesday.
The Dinos third man was Joe Palmer who finished in 11th place at the Region 8 championship meet. Palmer started out strong by running in fourth place for nearly half the race. But time and energy caught up with him. Palmer still finished strong in a sea of competitive runners.
David Goodrich placed 14th for the Dinos and was followed by Teddy Prettyman in 20th place and Chris Cook in 26th.
The number seven runner for Carbon was Brennan Woodward who finished in 37th place.
Dino runners who rounded out the race was Derek Wood in 38th place, Tyler Munns in 39th place, Tom Garbin in 43th, Ian Wilstead 48th, Lane Pell 58th, Jacob Perez 53rd, and Kerry Powell in 60th place.
The Carbon boys placed second as a team in the region finals just behind Lehi who captured the region team title.
Each of the Carbon runners bettered their times since the first time that they ran the course in September. The improvement makes the Dinos confident that they can compete strong at the state finals Wednesday afternoon at Sugar House Park in Salt Lake City.
