James Martino Sr.
KANSAS CITY, Kan. – James V. Martino Sr., 79 of Kansas City, Kan., died Feb. 28, 2002 at his home.
James was born Sept. 19, 1922 in Sunnyside to John and Rose Martino. He moved to Kansas City in 1952, where he married Theresa DiMaggio.
He graduated from Carbon High School in Price in 1941. He was a Navy Veteran of WWII, serving on the USS Mayo in the Mediterranean at Anzio and Salerno Beach invasions.
He worked for the United Mine Workers in Hiawatha. He joined the Sheet Metal Workers Local 2 in 1952. He retired in 1985 from Performance Contractors in Lenesa, Kan., after 29 years of service as a general foreman. He enjoyed his retirement with wood working and working in his yard with his children and grandchildren.
He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6654 in DeSoto, Kan.; the American Legion Post in Kansas City, Disabled Veterans Association and the Sheet Metal Workers Local 2 Retirees Club. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
James will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by three children, James V. (Kim) Martino Jr., DeSoto, Kan.; Rose Marie Lazzo, Rochester, Mich.; Sara Jean (Joseph) Yoakum, Overland Park, Kan.; nine grandchildren, Nicholas Martino, Christopher Martino, Lauren Lazzo, Luke Lazzo, Mark Lazzo, Michael Lazzo, Lora Yoakum, Katie Yoakum, Jessica Cisneros; two great-grandchildren, Jasmine and Nina Cisneros; two brothers and sister, Sam Martino, Florence Jernigan, Jay (Donna) Martino, all of Price; sisters-in-law, Rose Mingrone, Glenda (Santo) DiMaggio, Lena DiMaggio, all of Kansas City, Mo.; Roberto Martino, Long Beach, Calif.; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa, in 1988; two brothers, Pete Martino and Joe Martino; and one sister, Rose Martino.
Bob Davis
ORANGEVILLE – Bob “Buck” Davis, age 65, passed away March 15, 2002 at Castleview Hospital in Price. His heart failed during treatment for severe pneumonia.
He was born Jan. 19, 1937 in Richfield to Melvin “Micky” Harold and Emily Lucille Giesdorff Davis. He married Gwen Olsen in 1972, later divorced though they always remained close.
Bob loved his children, grandchildren, nephews and nieces and they loved him. He had the soft heart of a child, willing to love and yearning for love in return. He enjoyed the peace and beauty of Utah’s back country and spent a great deal of his life working and playing there.
Bob loved to tell stories of his travels as a truck driver, oil roughneck and his other adventures. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He will be missed by all who knew him.
Bob is survived by his mother, Lucille, of Sandy; ex-wife, Gwen; and their children, Mike, Debora and Gail; brothers, Fred, Terry and Kirk Allen; and sister, Margaret Millom. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Jon.
Funeral services will be Thursday, March 21, at 11 a.m. at the Orangeville LDS Chapel, where friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Orangeville Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
