The slump was broken Saturday for the College of Eastern Utah Lady Eagles, as the team walked away victorious after a long losing streak. The streak did continue however through Friday, as the Eagles struggled to clinch a win against the College of Southern Idaho’s Golden Eagles.
The Friday night game began well for CEU as the team lead at the half by the score of 32-29. The second half however found the Eagles battling for control of the game. The battle ended with CSI victorious 66-60, diminishing CEU’s halftime lead.
McKell Warburton lead the Eagles in scoring with 12 points, all of which coming from the three point line. Warburton also completed three rebounds, one assist, and one steal.
Following in scoring was Dawnielle Boudreaux who finished with eight points, and Rose Hamilton who finished with seven. Hamilton also completed five assists to lead the team in this category, while completing three steals and four rebounds.
The Eagles failed to complete seven fast breaks, leading to missed lay-ups that may have cost the team a win. Despite the loss, the Eagles looked good, stepping up the level of play several notches from weeks gone bye. The Eagles seemed to have found the fun and excitement of basketball once again in the two games played at home. This excitement lead to the Eagles victory Saturday, 77-71 against the Treasure Valley Chuckers.
The Eagles shot 46 percent from the field and 43 percent from the three point line. The increase in shooting percentage served as a mile marker for the ladies who have struggled in shooting in the past several weeks.
Warburton once again lead the team in scoring with 18 points, all of which were made from the long distance three point line.
Megan Valgardson followed in scoring with 16 points, while completing five rebounds, one assist, and one blocked shot. Kasey Mills also had a great game with 15 points, six assists, three steals, and three rebounds.
The victory for the Eagles came just in the nick of time. The Eagles now find themselves with the losing streak behind them, and once again confident and ready for action on the court. The spark is back in the team, and they hope to ignite the fire as they compete at home this weekend in back to back conference games at the BDAC.
