Don Reaveley is the newest face on the Price City Council.
The local businessman was sworn into office Jan. 23 in front of a pack crowd at the council chambers. He has been a resident of Price for seven years.
Manager of Mountain West X-Press, a freight brokerage company, Reaveley was born in Price and feels there is a good mix of people on the council.
“I think we have a good balance,” he said, adding that he would like to work on developing the downtown area and creating more employment opportunities in the area.
Addressing the council, Carbon/Emery Telcom network services manager Gary Harrison voiced appreciation for the city’s support and filled the officials in on the progress the company has made since taking over the Quest operation in Carbon County.
Carbon/Emery Telcom has spent more than $4 million dollars developing lines and cable systems since last April.
In unrelated actions, the council approved three conditional use permits at last week’s meeting. Praxair Health Care Services, formerly Interwest Medical, was authorized to install a sign at 60 South 700 East. Also approved for additional impact signs was the Wal-Mart operation on south Highway 55. Utah Central Credit Union was offered a conditional use permit to construct a new facility at 448 East Main.
The city approved a recommendation to join Sunrise Engineering and the Utah Department of Transportation to perform the construction management work on the Price Main Street improvement project. UDOT is requiring that a contract be executed to secure the services. The proposed cost is $89,634. Expected to start early in the summer, the project involves three blocks east on Main Street from Carbon Avenue.
The council approved hiring Tim Frame for the public works assistant position.
