The Carbon High Lady Dino’s basketball team welcomed the Cottonwood Colts to town Jan. 4. The welcome was short lived as the Dinos defeated the Colts 67-38 in a non-region competition.
The inhospitable Lady Dinos seemed to want to make up for losing last week to Wasatch and showed that they have the ability to bounce back after a tough game.
Reportedly, in the game against the Wasps much of the team had the flu, but none of that was evident in this contest as they destroyed the Lady Colts at every turn.
The victory boosts the Dino team to 10-2 for the season while the struggling Colts loss drops them to 2-9.
The Dinos played well on both ends of the ball against Cottonwood. The excellent ball handling found the Lady Dinos leading at the half 39-20.
After returning to the court after halftime, the Colts began to play strong offense. The Dino’s allowed the Colt’s to score 11 points in the third, however the fourth quarter saw the Dinos step up their defensive game.
The Colts were allowed only seven total points in the fourth quarter while the Dinos scored 13, thus Carbon High finished the game 31 points ahead of Cottonwood.
Leading scorer for the Dinos was Chelsey Warburton, who finished with 18 points, six of these points came from three point field goals.
Following Warburton in scoring was teammate and sister Cassie Warburton who scored 11 points, while Carbon post player Stephanie Cox completed 10 points against the Colts.
The Dino’s key players all scored for the team, while playing solid defense which lead to several turnovers by the Colts.
Carbon now looks forward to beginning the league season Jan. 10 against Delta at Carbon High at 7p.m.
The Lady Dinos plan to welcome the Delta team just as they did Cottonwood, with a defeat and a long bus ride home after the game.
