The Lady Eagles from the College of Eastern Utah traveled to Palm Desert, Calif., to compete in a three day tournament Dec. 28-30. After experiencing bus trouble, the team left 12 hours late bound for the golden state.
Despite the late start, the Eagles made it just in the nick of time to compete in its first game against Glendale Community College.
Although the Eagles were tired from the long bus trip, the team played well against the Glendale Gauchos.
After missing a layup in the last two seconds of the game, the Eagles entered overtime where they lost 87-84.
Leading scorer for CEU was Rose Hamilton who finished with 17 points, 12 points coming from three point field goals. Hamilton also dished out two assists and stole two balls.
Julianne Orgill followed in scoring with 14 points. Orgill was 2-2 from the three point line and finished with two assists, two steals, and two rebounds.
Megan Valgardson also played well against the Gauchos. Valgardson scored 13 points, posted eight rebounds, and had two blocked shots despite the team loss to Glendale Community College.
The following night, the Eagles met Golden West College. CEU bounced back from a loss the previous night and defeated the Golden West Rustlers 93-52.
Brindi Spadafora lead the Eagles in scoring with 16 points. Spadafora shot 3-4 from the three point line, while shooting 5-5 from the free throw line, and stealing one ball.
Eagles guard Kasey Mills followed in scoring with 15 points, while dishing out four assists, stealing two balls, and posting five rebounds.
Eagles high scorers also included Hamilton with 14 points, Dawnielle Boudreaux with 13, and Orgill who finished with 10 points against Golden West College.
The Eagles finished the three day tourney against Imperial Valley College. The Eagles struggled in shooting and lost 80-66.
According to head coach Dave Paur, “we couldn’t hit nothing. We had several girls sick and everyone was tired from the trip. The long vacation did us in. We just did not play well.”
Despite the Eagle’s struggles against Imperial Valley, both Mills and Boudreaux scored 13 points while Orgill finished with 10.
Constance Rasmussen lead CEU with four assists while Chelsea Bolz and Alexandra Cobb lead in rebounds with six each.
With the bus repaired and the CEU ball club prepared for competition, Coach Paur and the Lady Eagle’s will travel to Idaho to take on Ricks College and North Idaho Community College Jan. 3 and 5.
The team hopes to bounce back from the tough weekend in California and walk away victorious in Idaho.
