CEU Museum Arranges to Host Hartly Olympiad Photo Exhibit

The College of Eastern Utah Prehistoric Museum has arranged to host a Cultural Olympiad Special Traveling Exhibit.
This Contest is for Real Hands: Rodeo Photographs of the 1930s will be on display in the museum’s gallery from Jan. 28 until March 4.
The exhibition captures the drama and color of an old-time western rodeo.
The 56 black-and-white-photographs were taken by Ortho Hartly, many snapped from inside the arena. Hartly captured the varied, unique aspects of the rodeo tradition.
In conjunction with the exhibit, the museum plans display Carbon-Emery rodeo memorabilia.
The opening reception is slated Feb. 1 in the upstairs art gallery at the CEU museum. The gathering will start at 7 and continue until 9 p.m.
Specially planned activities will include favorite country music provided by the Nine Mile Players. Local rodeo club members will be present at the reception and refreshments will be served.
During the Hartly traveling rodeo photo exhibition, there will be lectures offered at the prehistoric museum on Main Street in downtown Price and rodeo demonstrations at local public schools.

The Hartly Olympiad traveling exhibit is curated by Lee Stillman, photo archivist of the Powell Country Museum and Arts Foundation in Deer Lodge, Mont.
