Arthur Rich
WELLINGTON – Arthur L. Rich, age 81, passed away Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, in Provo after a short illness.
He was born May 14, 1920 in Roosevelt to Charles C. Rich III and Theadocia Clark Rich. He married Edna Orlene Powell July 1, 1959 in Rock Springs, Wyo., later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple.
He was a cowboy all his life and loved working with his hands, whether with animals or in the coal mine. He was a member of the UMWA, having retired after 30 years with Kaiser Steel. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII.
He loved people and, in addition to his family, he leaves many dear friends behind, by whom he will be deeply missed.
He is survived by wife, Edna, Wellington; children, Carol and Steve Jones, Sherry and Eddie Johnson, all of Woodland, Calif.; Ruby and Rick Sandoval, Price; Orson and Claudette Rich, Price; Mary and Dan Loveless, Ogden; Wendy Rich, Coalville; and 21 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by 14 brothers and sisters and two sons.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Jan. 16, 1 p.m., at the Wellington LDS 1st/4th Ward Chapel. Friends may call Tuesday evening, 7 to 9 p.m., at Fausett Mortuary in Price and Wednesday, 11:30 to 12:45 p.m. prior to services at the church. Burial, Wellington City Cemetery.
Anna McArthur
OREM – Anna Rhea Wakefield McArthur, age 96, passed away Jan. 10, 2002 at the home of her daughter, Mary Kukahiko, in Orem.
She was born May 26, 1905 in Orangeville to Annettie and Thomas Wakefield. Rhea married her childhood sweetheart, Perry L. McArthur, June 4, 1930 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He taught school, coached and kept books for businesses in Price, where they raised seven children.
Her grandparents immigrated from England and Denmark and came across the plains with the Saints. She was raised in Huntington, with three sisters and a brother.
As a young girl, Rhea loved to read and learned homemaking and sewing skills from her mother. She was advanced two grades in school and graduated early. She loved to ride horses with friends up on the old Gentry Mountain in Emery County. As a young woman living and working as a milliner in California in the ’20s, she made her own fashion statement in ensembles of gloves, shawls and hats she had created.
Rhea’s full-time career was creating beauty with frugal means and teaching her children to do the same, as well as supporting and inspiring them in their own talents and interests. She instilled in them the joy and creativity of hard work. She served in the Relief Society for many years as the “work day” leader.
After her family grew and moved (at one time, seven children living in seven different states), she had the opportunity of traveling to the east and west coasts, England and Hawaii. Her husband of 67 years died in 1997. A year later, Rhea moved to Orem to live with her daughter, Mary.
Rhea’s greatest joy was her grand posterity.
She is survived by four sons, two daughters and their spouses, Hampton and Jean McArthur, Price; Rex and Joanne McArthur, Palm Desert, Calif.; Annette and Wayne Rowley, Ames, Iowa; Gregg and Theresa McArthur, Thousand Oaks, Calif.; Leon Kent and Louise McArthur, Murray; Mary and Glenn Kukahiko, Orem; 21 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband, Perry; son, Nedd; and grandson, Shane.
Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 14, at the Canyon View 4th LDS Ward in Orem under the direction of Walker Sanderson Funeral Home. Graveside services were conducted in the Huntington City Cemetery.
Christopher Myers
HELPER- Christopher Robert Myers, 26, beloved son, brother, grandson and friend, died Dec. 24, 2001 while vacationing in Europe.
Born Dec. 12, 1975 to Brent Glade and Suzanne Ruth Myers in Salt Lake City. Attended Skyline and graduated from Carbon High School.
Attended the College of Eastern Utah. Served his country in the U.S. Army first Armored Division, stationed in Germany, two tours in Bosnia.
Chris loved basketball, traveling and skydiving. He lived life with a zest. He was a positive, humorous, outgoing man.
Survived by parents, Suzanne and Uwe Mudrow, Brent and Sheila Myers; brothers, David and Jesse Myers; Mark, Gary and Jon (Terisha) Mudrow; sisters, Summer (Will) Flemetakis; Staci (Jesse) Noleroth; Heidi (Brett) Anderson; Robyn (Dus-tin) Owen; Carissa, Krystal and Kate Mudrow; grandparents, Ruby Myers, Rose Fenn, Elfriede Mudrow, Elmer “Ed” Clauser; many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Chris will be greatly missed.
Graveside service Jan. 16 at 1:30 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 17111 Camp Williams Road, Bluffdale.
Junior Mortensen
PARIS, Idaho – Nephi Junior Mortensen, 81, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2002 in the Bear Lake Memorial Hospital in Montpelier.
He was born in Elmo, June 11, 1920 to Nephi and Elsie Gena Oviatt Mortensen.
He moved to Paris about 20 years ago. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a high priest at the time of his death. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a sheepherder for several years in Carbon County, and a miner for Texas-Gulf Potash Mines.
After becoming reacquainted, he married Betty Pace Hampton Oct. 6, 1967 in Salt Lake City. They lived in Moab; Green River, Wyo.; and Paris, Idaho, during their marriage.
He is survived by wife, Betty, Paris, Ida.; four children, Arevell (Kate) Burge, Bountiful; Terry Lynn Hampton, Paris, Idaho; Dale (Gayle) Hampton, Midway; Marleine (Mike) Sorenson, Idaho Falls, Idaho; 15 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia M. Laskot, Arizona; Nina (Robert) Lind-hardt, Green River; Wyo.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, three brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Jan. 16, 1 p.m., at the Paris LDS Chapel, where friends may cal from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Burial, Price City cemetery Thursday, Jan. 18, 2 p.m., under the direction of Matthews Mortuary of Montpelier.
Irv Williams
ELMO/CLEVELAND – Irvin Frank Williams (PA) passed away Jan. 10, 2002 at his home while surrounded by his loving family.
Born May 13, 1937 in Helper to George I. and Inas Cave Williams. He married his sweetheart, JoAnn McAnally Feb. 28, 1956 in Price.
He loved his farms, horses, fishing and hunting. He loved his rides up Huntington Canyon, but most of all he loved spending time with his family.
Irv worked as a drywall contractor for over 40 years owning and operating his own business. Everyone who dealt with him knew he was a true professional.
He was loved by all who knew him and will truly be missed more than he would ever know.
Even to the end, Dad kept his sense of humor, saying he didn’t mind the dying, but he just didn’t want to be there when it happened.
He is survived by loving wife of 45 years, JoAnn Williams, Elmo; children, Lorna (Gaylen) Atwood, Jensen; ReNee (Steven) Rappleye, Salt Lake City; Irvin (Kelly) Williams, Bountiful; Monica (Lonnie) Besst, Cedar-view; mother, Inas Williams, Elmo; brothers, Orvil (Sue) Williams, Helper; John Williams, Ferron; sister, Darlene (Paul) Norris, Beckley, W.V.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by father, George I. Williams; and son, Zachary.
Dad, you will be in our hearts and memories forever. Hopefully, now you and Zachary can reunite again.
God knew you were suffering. That the hills were getting hard to climb. So He gently closed your eyes and whispered, “Peace be thine.” In tears, we watched you sinking. We saw you fade away. Our hearts were nearly broken. You fought so hard to stay. It breaks our hearts to see you go. But you didn’t go alone, for part of us went with you the day God took you home.
Memorial service Saturday, Jan. 19, 11 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home in Price. Family will be at Mitchell’s Saturday one-half hour prior to services. Interment, Price City Cemetery.
